Here we are ripping the gunwales for the Greenland kayaks out of the large Oregon Pine beam and the gunwales for the Baidarka from the Sitka Spruce.
As the saw has not got enough depth we have to saw one side first and then turn it over and saw through the other side. After ripping, we shave the gunwales to their exact size. A big job because the gunwales vary from 2,6 cm to 2,3 cm by 8 cm. We will have to shave them back to 1,9 by 7,5 cm.
